Today was a really shitty day.

Someone once said...

"I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music."

Dupont Driving hell

I just nominated the little strip of Dupont St. that use to resemble a street between Davenport Rd and & Avenue Rd. as one of the worst streets in Toronto on the Ontario's Worst Roads website. The road is so bad that I actually had two large caliper bolts rattle completely off my car. Judging by the comments and number of votes it's received so far I just might be right.

"It has been dug up so often it is now a mass of bumps"

"There is almost no original pavement left on this stretch. Nothing but potholes and lumpy patches, including big lumpy patches from the past year of constant digging up and then filling in of the road. Bathurst used to be worse, but this piece of Dupont takes the cake!"

"It has been dug up so many times and rever properly repaved. There are tons of potholes and cracks in the road."

"Potholes and bumps! Shoddy construction has left this portion of Dupont unusable. Whoever had the contract to "fix" this part of Dupont should not be allowed to bid on any more contracts"

"
This small section of road is a patchwork of poor construction that has created a corrugated mess for cars and their drivers. It should be shutdown for 1 month to completely repave the entire (small) stretch."

"
Patches on top of patches! If you go near the speed limit, you are in trouble! No need for speed bumps here."

Dry clean only

Weird...but my sister found a picture via google of where I live. It's the name-sake for this blog. That's either pretty cool or pretty scary.

(38 - 36) = WOO HOO!!!

I submitted my picks for this years TIFF and got placed in box 38. The draw was held and lucky #36 was drawn. That means I was in the 3rd box to be processed which pretty much guaranteed me all of my first choices (Dan was not so luck and was in box 12).

Even better...when I got home, a mere 5 hours after the draw I received my confirmation. Here is what I will be seeing over the next couple of weeks:

1) Thank You For Smoking FRI 09/09/2005 06:30pm

2) Sketches of Frank Gehry SAT 09/10/2005 12:00pm

3) Winter Passing SAT 09/10/2005 07:00pm

4) Trust the Man MON 09/12/2005 06:00pm

5) Brothers of the Head FRI 09/16/2005 09:15pm
I'll probably buy additional single tickets for the other films I want to see.

Let the Festival begin!!!!!!

We both have My Style

My lovely dear friend Buffy Shields is featured in this week's NOW Magazine in the My Style section.

If you recall, I was featured in the same section back in May of last year.

The real cause of Hurricane Katrina?

You know, I've always thought that the religious right in the US was rife with a bunch of racists, bigots, Homophobes, hypocrits and wackos....I was right! It doesn't help that they have one in the White House who graciously cut his 5 week vaction by a couple of days to do more of nothing.

From salon.com

Sometimes, it's hard to keep up.

We reported last night on the cause of Hurricane Katrina -- at least in the eyes of an antiabortion group called Columbia Christians for Life. The storm, the group says, is God's way of punishing Louisiana for having 10 abortion clinics.

Well, at least that's what the Columbia Christians for Life were saying yesterday. We've just received another e-mail from the group, and now it seems to be saying that God sent Katrina after Louisiana to prevent Southern Decadence, an annual gay-themed bash that was scheduled for Labor Day weekend in New Orleans.

The Columbia Christians for Life forwarded to us a press release from a Philadelphia-based outfit called Repent America. In it, Repent America director Michael Marcavage explains: "Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city. From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same."
