One of my goals when I started road cycling in April was to be able to ride up to my parents house in north Brampton. I accomplished that goal this weekend. It was a round about sort of route as I hadn't mapped out a route in advance but it was an interesting ride nonetheless. Highlights includ jets taking off from Pearson for the Air Show, a funeral procession, telling off a few drivers and the obligatory final stop at Starbucks for a latte and Double Espresso Brownie.

I'm close to my ultimate goal for the season of completing a metric century (100km/62 mile).

The five-month-old Ukula shop is a bricks-and-mortar version of the indie culture-clash quarterly and wears just as many hats. Publishers and owners Graeme Maclean and Kevin Renton compile each issue of their mag in the basement, assembling work by writers, editors and photographers from around the globe. Ukula picks: Nudie Jeans ' Thin Finn style in a dry black wash is popular with stovepipe denim lovers, $185; scalloped white stripes accent Zeha Berlin sneaks, available in green, brown and white, $170-$190; newbies and seasoned music lovers can sample locally recorded tunes in the inviting listening station.

Now that summers over, I figure I should get back to this blogging thing. And nothing signals the end of summer and is more blog worthy than the Toronto International Film Festival.

I bought the 10 coupon pack again this year which means 5 festival flix. Sarah (the Aussie) and I made our picks while hanging out by the bar at Mod Club Theatre on Thursday night. I almost didn't get my picks even submitted if it wasn't for T-Bone (as she is know on the internet) reminding me of the 1:00pm cut-off time on Friday. I made it with 20 mins. to spare. Thanks T-Bone!

For some reason this year I didn't recieve my notification email like Dan did so I had to wait and go pick up my tickets to find out if I got my choices. I lucked out again this year as I was in box #37 and #22 was the box drawn so I was pretty sure I was going to get what I wanted.

Some high drama out front of my apartment this morning. About an hour after I rode the TTC to work a metal plate fell off a train car and hit the electrified third rail injuring 10 people. City News has video of the aftermath. Initial reports of the massive police presence being direct at me were proven to be false.

I attended the 2006 Canadian International AutoShow this past weekend and snapped a few pictures. Without out a doubt my favourite of the show was the $435,000 (plus taxes) white Lamborghini Murciélago. Many will disagree but the Murciélago is a true supercar from front to back. It's sharp sexy lines make the car look fast even when its sitting still.

Just got back from 'photoblogging toronto'; a seminar presented by the Hart House Camera Club with guest speaker Sam Javanrouh of Daily Dose of Imagery fame. You know blogs and photoblogs have become a big deal when on a Wednesday evening 100+ people from as far away as Hamilton, young & old and from all walks of life, cram into a standing room only room at U of T's Hart House to listen to a photoblogger talk about what he loves to do. For about an hour Sam took us through just a small sample of the 940+ amazing photos he has posted each and every day since 2003. Sam sees Toronto through a lens with an eye for the narrative and a journalistic quality, each photo telling its own story. Job well done Sam!

Well my hopes of posting to the blog and posting images to Flickr as I travelled around Oz and NZ have been frustrated by no to little internet access and restrictive bandwidth limits (I'm posting this while I still have access in perth City). My pretties will just have to wait til I return. Then I will tell you about Quokkas, my new favorite city in the world (Sydney) and life amongst the Kiwis.
Currently, I am heading to Margaret River. The most beautiful wine region in all of Australia. I have certainly had my share of stunning Pinot Noirs, bold Shiraz and Cab Sauvs., crisp Semillion, Chardonnays and Sauvigno Blancs. It's been a winos dream come true.
Not to rub it in or anything but the weather for the most part has been brilliant especially in Sydney and this week when the thermometer hit a scorching 38C...ok maybe I am rubbing it in just a bit.
I should be able to post again before Christmas which is really bizarre amongst the palm trees and the kookaburras.
Chat later....got some drinking...I mean tasting to do.

Almost...I'm at Singapore's Changi Airport. Best thing about this airport is the have FREE internet and wireless access almost everywhere..sweet!
The stop in Singapore was to re-fresh with a new crew and clean the plane. Very few people on this flight were actually going to Singapore the rest are all Perth bound. I thought I was going to have the plane to myself because who the hell goes to Perth anyway..nevermind.
Its 25C here and absolutely lovely. A far cry from the weather I left in Toronto.
The approach into Singapore was surprising one, to me anyway. I didn't realize Singapore had so many little islands and is a huge port city. There were thousands of tanks, cargo ships and boats floating around.
Gotta go...about to take off yet again. Man to I love to fly!!! WOO HOO!!

So I've arrived at Heathrow Terminal 4. The flight from Toronto was every flight should be...uneventful. I watched War of the Worlds, Fantastic 4 an BBC News. Here's a tip if you ever want to be fed first on a flight...order a "special" meal. I order a vegetarian meal (it was vegan) and I was eating before anyone had received the regular meal. I even had wine before and with my meal u. Turning Leaf (California) 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. They come in 187ml bottles with screw caps. So I had two.
My flight to Perth is 19 hours so let's hope its as smooth. I should be able to get on quite a few movies, finish a novel and polish off a few mini wines.
Next update will be on Sunday when I arrive down under (you won't see it until Monday due to the 13 hour difference)

Yesterday I ordered my brand new digital camera. I purchased a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR with a lovely EF-S 17-85 IS USM lense from Simons Camera in Montreal. I also bought a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II which I will be using for portraits, concerts and club shots. Not only did Simon's have the best prices anywhere, but becuase they are located in Montreal I am not charged our horrible PST. I still need to get the Battery Grip and the back-up HD to off-load the pics from the memory cards and other minor accessories. Once I'm done, I will be well kitted out for my trip to Australia and New Zealand next month.

Dupont Driving hell

I just nominated the little strip of Dupont St. that use to resemble a street between Davenport Rd and & Avenue Rd. as one of the worst streets in Toronto on the Ontario's Worst Roads website. The road is so bad that I actually had two large caliper bolts rattle completely off my car. Judging by the comments and number of votes it's received so far I just might be right.

"It has been dug up so often it is now a mass of bumps"

"There is almost no original pavement left on this stretch. Nothing but potholes and lumpy patches, including big lumpy patches from the past year of constant digging up and then filling in of the road. Bathurst used to be worse, but this piece of Dupont takes the cake!"

"It has been dug up so many times and rever properly repaved. There are tons of potholes and cracks in the road."

"Potholes and bumps! Shoddy construction has left this portion of Dupont unusable. Whoever had the contract to "fix" this part of Dupont should not be allowed to bid on any more contracts"

I submitted my picks for this years TIFF and got placed in box 38. The draw was held and lucky #36 was drawn. That means I was in the 3rd box to be processed which pretty much guaranteed me all of my first choices (Dan was not so luck and was in box 12).

Well, at least that's what the Columbia Christians for Life were saying yesterday. We've just received another e-mail from the group, and now it seems to be saying that God sent Katrina after Louisiana to prevent Southern Decadence, an annual gay-themed bash that was scheduled for Labor Day weekend in New Orleans.

The Columbia Christians for Life forwarded to us a press release from a Philadelphia-based outfit called Repent America. In it, Repent America director Michael Marcavage explains: "Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city. From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same."

Six Feet Under just ending and I'm crying. Not because its over (although I'll miss terribly) but because it just made me so damn happy to be alive. To have a big wonderful family that although I believe have serious issues, I love terribly. And in the end, Six Feet Under wasn't about death but living despite of it.

I was just in Cultures grabbing some grub (tomato & mushroom quiche with fruit salad and spinach salad) when I heard an ad for something called encounter 2005, a Christian rock festival at Ontario Place sponsored by FaithLife Financial that describes itself as:
